FLORENCE, Ariz. – Embattled Arizona TV pitchman Don Lapre was found dead in his jail cell Sunday morning, myFOXphoenix.com reported, citing law enforcement sources.

Lapre was being held in federal jail without bond, awaiting trial on charges of defrauding at least 220,000 people out of nearly $52 million. Prosecutors accused him of selling worthless vitamins that could not live up to advertising claims.

Spokesman Matt Hershey says Donald Lapre was found dead in his cell at a Florence facility Sunday morning. His trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Hershey says the death remains under investigation.

Lapre was arrested June 23 in Tempe by the U.S. Marshals Service after failing to appear a day earlier for his arraignment. He had been camping out inside a gym locker room.

A grand jury indicted the 47-year-old on 41 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and promotional money laundering in connection to his company “The Greatest Vitamin in the World.”

BOCA RATON, FL, August 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ — Infomercial Production Company and DRTV Media Agency, InfoWorx Direct (http://infoworx.com/) launched an innovative pay for results, per inquiry advertising program for its Direct Response marketing clients. Per inquiry advertising empowers the advertiser to dictate a fixed amount they are willing to pay for a response or an order to their offer. Direct response advertising agency, InfoWorx Direct now offers and executes pay for results programs that span all media including TV, radio, print, online, mobile, and even out of home advertising.

“Per Inquiry advertising puts total control in our client’s hands and allows for growth from the ground up. They can specify how many responses or sales they want and set a price they are willing to pay for each one. This allows them to use their performance metrics to maximize the potential of their campaigns,” Ron Perlstein, Executive Producer and Media Director at InfoWorx Direct explained. “With pay for results advertising programs, there are no surprises. The client simply decides how much response they want, and the platform delivers it. The InfoWorx Direct per inquiry campaign platform includes nearly every form of direct response advertising from television to pizza boxes.”

“We designate one 800-number per campaign per media outlet, and redirect the calls to the marketer’s call center for accurate tracking. One spot can be marketed across multiple channels, and each spot can be linked to 6 revenue touch points,” Perlstein continued. “The beauty of a per inquiry campaign is that the client retains total control. They can set the geographic campaign, designate their Direct Response Customer demographics, and even specify call center hour restrictions. This allows them to experiment with multiple media platforms and evaluate which ones are working best for them.”

Recently, InfoWorx Direct has significantly enhanced its media buying intelligence, and introduced the economy-sensitive Demo long form TV Infomercial package that enables clients to introduce and test their products for a lower-risk investment. The innovative pay for results, per inquiry advertising program is another step to improve success and increase profits for all InfoWorx direct clients.

Since 1992, direct response television agency and infomercial production company, InfoWorx Direct, has established itself as a successful, award winning infomercial producer of both short-form DRTV spots and long-form info-commercials. InfoWorx has developed the most affordable turnkey infomercial model in the industry that offers clients award winning television and radio infomercial production as well as TV and Radio infomercial media buying services.

Infomercials bring us some of the greatest innovations of our time. Where else can an inventor bring a product to the masses so quickly and efficiently? But of course there are always those that take advantage of a good thing.

In the early days of infomercials we saw a lot of people producting shows that were meant to look like a news show, or a consumer report on a specific product or service…only to find that it was really a paid program. We then created the National Infomercial Marketing Association (now called The Electronic Retailing Association ERA) to help self police our industry. Many of us we all to happy to bring new products to the market using this exciting new format, which worked just as well if not better when called out as a commercail.

Cut to the new internet retailing and blogging of Infomercial and other As Seen On TV products and we see some of the same type of explotation and mockery of conumser faith in our industry. We have seen numerous Infomercial Product Review sites and blogs that are really just bad attempts to gain consumer trust and dollars. This trend will not last so we say to you consumers looking to find out what consumers really think about a product or service…do you homework. If the site or blog is selling ads for the same product it reviews, ask yourself if that makes a difference.

We believe that 90% of the products on television do exactly what they say they will do…and that the deal offered is worth every penny paid, but when it comes to the blogs and websites selling some of these products…it is like the television infomercial wild wild west of the late 1980′s and we all know the lasting damage a very few black hats caused for the industry. The word ”Infomercial” and those in the business are still trying to clean up from that mess.

In a recent interview posted on Scifiwire: Ben Stiller and Shawn Levy, the star and director of the fantasy comedy Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, told reporters that they invested a lot of time in finding just the right story on which to build the sequel.

“We wanted to find a way to separate the first movie from the second movie that was different, because we had already done the idea of things comings to life,” Stiller said in a news conference at the Smithsonian Institution over the weekend in Washington. Night at the Museum 2 picks up two years after the original film and finds that Stiller’s character, former New York Natural History museum security guard Larry Daley, is now a successful infomercial product inventor. Preoccupied with his business, Daley is shocked to learn from curator Dr. McPhee (Ricky Gervais) that all his magical museum friends, from Jedediah Smith (Owen Wilson) to Dexter the monkey, are being boxed up for the federal archives in order to make room for new high-tech exhibits. Daley then heads to the Smithsonian to help his pals escape new threats, while meeting new friends such as Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) and Gen. Custer (Bill Hader) along the way.

Stiller and Levy spoke alongside screenwriters Ben Garant and Tom Lennon and cast members Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Hank Azaria and Amy Adams at a news conference; the following is an edited version. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian opens on Friday.
