A China Eastern airliner with 132 people on board crashed in southern Guangxi province on Monday, state broadcaster CCTV reports. The Boeing 373, apparently Flight MU5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou, crashed in mountains near the city of Wuzhou. There has been no news on casualties. According to FlightRadar24, the aircraft rapidly lost speed and entered a sharp descent before it stopped transmitting data at 2:22 p.m. local time.China’s airline industry has among the best safety records in the world, Reuters reports. The Boeing 737-800 airplane that reportedly crashed Monday had been flying for six years. China’s last fatal civilian air crash was in 2010, when 44 of 96 people aboard a Henan Airlines Ebraer E-19 crashed at Yichun’s airport.

Meta President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg is out with a statement following the Russian government’s Friday decision to officially block access to Facebook, owned by Meta, amid the Moscow-led invasion of neighboring Ukraine.”Soon millions of ordinary Russians will find themselves cut off from reliable information, deprived of their everyday ways of connecting with family and friends and silenced from speaking out,” Clegg said of Russia’s decision. “We will continue to do everything we can to restore our services to they remain available to people to safely and securely express themselves and organize for action.”Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications regulator, said in a statement that the decision to block Facebook was made after at least 26 instances of  “discrimination against Russian media and information resources” since October 2020, per BuzzFeed News. Since the invasion of Ukraine began, Meta, as well as several other Big Tech companies, have imposed restrictions on Kremlin-affiliated media sources so as to curb misinformation on their platforms.

At least 57 are dead and over 100 wounded after a Friday explosion devastated a Shiite mosque in northwestern Pakistan, The New York Times reports, per Pakistani police and doctors.Authorities are not entirely sure yet what happened, but believe at least one gunman attacked police officers “before entering the mosque and detonating what appeared to be a suicide vest,” the Times writes. Pakistani intelligence officials believe the attack was most likely the responsiblity of ISIS-K, though a party has yet to take ownership. A tweet from the Pakistani police said one officer was killed and another was critically wounded.”We have secured CCTV footage and will be examining it very closely,” said Peshawar Police Chief Ejaz Khan, who noted there seemed to be two involved individuals, both of which were wearing and subsequently detonated explosives. “A blast struck the mosque during Friday prayers, and gunmen stormed inside, opening fire on worshipers packed into the main hall,” officials added, per The Washington Post.The Friday violence was some of the deadliest to hit Peshawar — “a city of roughly two million people near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan” — in over seven years, adds the Times and the Post.”It was a horrible scene,” Jahanzeb Sarhadi, who lives near the mosque, told the Post. When Sarhadi reached the area, “there were many injured people lying on the floor crying for help. I saw many dead bodies, scattered body parts, and the floor was covered with blood,” he went on.
